Flashcard Definition & Meaning
Flash-Cards- Flash Cards are made of thick paper and are like a post card in shape. Pictures are made with illustrative words or sentences on them. They are generally of two types.
1. Picture flash cards with or without illustrative words or sentences written on them.
2. Words, phrase or sentence, on flash cards sometimes are given in mother-tongue also. The card is flashed only for a mo ment and the learner looks at the word or phrase, given on it and tries to recall its meaning. If the learner recalls the correct mean ing, then the teacher picks up another card, if the learner fails, the teacher makes another attempt of flashing the card after some times. This process is continued till the learner recalls the correct mean ing. The learners can themselves check with the help of the an swer, given on the black side of the card. For instance : –
If the teacher wants to teach an essay type lesson on The Horse’, he can illustrate it by showing students different pictures of horses engaged in various activities like running, jumping over a hurdle, pulling a cart, and can write befitting sentences on the backside of the pictures. They will prove useful to the students and they can learn easily.
1. The horse runs very fast.
2. The horse can jump over the river.
3, Horse rider
4. The horse pulls a cart.
Flash cards can be used for :
1. Preparatory reading.
2. Teaching of composition.
3. Word recognition.
4. Matching words with the help of pictures.
5. Illustration etc.
